Even on the worst day with my husband its still better than a day without him....don't know if that makes sense to anyone else but me...LOL!

anybody have any yesterday or in the past during holiday gatherings?.
i kind of expect for there to be tensions with some people over the holidays because it can be stressful...but i also think that since my siblings and i didn't grow up celebrating anything that it adds an extra tension and can sometimes cause fights.
any experiences?

Nope, my aunt and uncle haven't learned to get along and probably never will.
My aunt goes around through life feeling as though she has been victimized by everyone - anything even a simple oops could be an act of agression towards her.....when in fact she is the person who starts most things...she's very attention hungry and does anything to get any kind of attention she can....she's the middle child....
And my uncle is the baby of 9 and can't do anything wrong....
Alot of them are getting together for a family Christmas this year.....I am very glad to be here in Massachussetts away from all the bliss and drama.
It's funny to me that when all my aunts and uncles get together a lot of them revert back to childhood behaviors.....making me thankful once again to be an only child!

I remember one family holiday when my uncle told my 400 pound aunt to stop eating and snorted at her. She picked up a whole bowl of potato salad and threw it at his head breaking my grandmothers hutch behind him. Then my uncle threw the plate of olives and sweet pickles at her and went for the another bowl of some other food.
It was hard to see everything from the kids table...this whole scene caused my sweet grandmother to yell "What the f*ck are you doing - get out of my house!" to my aunt and uncle. My grandmother is not the type to curse unless you push her over the edge!
My other 2 uncles tossed both of them out and we cleaned up and started eating. My grandmother banned those 2 from family holiays because they wouldn't apologize to eachother and her...and they also wouldn't pay to replace her broken antique hutch.
Fast Forward 10+ years .......A similar scene played out as my grandfather was dying at home. This was the first and last time we had all been together since that Christmas. My grandparents 9 children and some of my cousins and their kids. That same uncle thought it would be funny to sneak up behind my Aunt as she was spending a couple minutes alone with my grandfather and stick a spoonful of potato salad down the back of her dress....my aunt started screaming, crying and punching. My uncle was laughing his head off holding a budweiser licking the potato salad spoon....Enter my step-dad and 2 uncles to toss both of them out of the house again. Neither one of them got to be with my grandfather the next day when all the rest of us were there when he took his last breath.
Sad and disgusting behavior.

i just watched the local bbc news and there was a story about a woman who'd fed her baby while sitting on a public bench.
she finished and was on her way when a police car drew up beside her and asked her to stop.
there had been a complaint.

I understand what you mean when you say the whole boob is exposed. I personally think there is a whole line of nursing/breastfeeding shirts designed by men for their pleasure only.
And I breastfeed my son and would never wear one of those shirts! It's like it unsnaps from the shoulder and lets you see the skin from the collarbone down to under the breast on one side! What The Helicopter is that about? It is definately not discreet!
Also, it'd be pretty stupid to wear in the winter...frostbite on one whole side of the body if you have to nurse your baby out in the cold!
I am more offended by big breasted women or fat women who pour themselves into a toddler sized piece of clothing and prance about the mall with half their butt, stomach, and breasts wiggling around for everyone to see....just because you have it doesn't mean the rest of us want to see you flaunt it...

I have to agree with Daystar on this..
My best friend does not spank her children and they are constantly hitting my son and doing really mean things. There is not any discipline in that house. They are like the wild boys in peter pan!
My oldest son has been spanked - not much - but yes and he is the kindest kid in the world.
And no - I didn't enjoy spanking him. I have gone into the bathroom and cried each time. But I did what I was taught to do by my mom and grandparents.
I have never spanked my 15 month old and I don't know that I ever will because I have found time outs , a very stern NO, and revocation of priviledges works so well.
I subscribe mostly to the Dr. Phil method.....take away what he loves most. It's very effective and is much more powerful than any smack on the bum.

i've been wondering what people think about this.
as soon as i turned 18 and had an income (it was disability but income just the same) my parents began to charge me room and board.
is this common practice?
I started paying rent when I decided I didn't want to go to college anymore.
The rules at our house were if you're in school you don't have to pay rent.
I obviously was not raised a JW! LOL!
On a side note when I learned to drive, I had to buy my first car, pay for gas and insurance...thus I began working when I was 15.

when the deli man was done cutting my cheese...(no jokes please) he said - have a happy thanksgiving!.
i watched to see what the jw's would say when he said this to them and they were very polite and said - thank you very much!.

Yes, this is my cat Harley. He got into some glue down in our basement and I had to shave him down. He didn't really appreciate it. He's usually a very fluffy and big! I think this was humiliating for him.

I was surprised that they didn't use this an an opportunity to spread the joy of the Org.
The whole thing reminded me of sitting in those uncomfortable chairs at the KH and listening to a talk by Elder Windbag about how to zealously proclaim the good news of the kingdom. He recounted a story of how he handled people who said Merry Christmas to him. His response was that when someone said Merry Christmas he would tell them he hadn't celebrated in 10 years and this would A) prompt them to ask why... or B) He wouldn't be taking part in the pagan celebrations or some other thing.
Did they give these talks at your KH? What did you say to people who said Merry Christmas, Happy Thanksgiving or Happy ______ to you when you were a JW?

today on dr phil, the entire show revolved around 2 sisters and their half sister who grew up in an abusive home.
the older two girls were molested in addition to physical, verbal and emotional abuse by their step-father (their half-sister's biological father).
the youngest girl, now in her 20s, has a child of her own, whom she entrusts to the baby's grandfather - the same man who sexually abused her half sisters.
I watched part of this then had to turn this off because it was literally making me ill that daughter leaves her child with this man!
I wonder why C.P.S. or DSS hasn't stepped in to protect the child?
Isn't Dr. Phil still a mandated reporter even though he's gone Hollywood?
